A Finished Project - Bienvenido by Design Works

There’s something especially satisfying about putting the final stitch into a project that has been in your rotation for a while. On September 12, 2026, we officially finished Bienvenido by Design Works, and it deserves a closer look.
“Bienvenido” means “welcome” in Spanish, which fits this colorful sampler perfectly. The design is filled with warm imagery centered around home, family, faith, friendship, and hospitality. From the large BIENVENIDO across the top to WELCOME stitched along the bottom, nearly every section has its own little scene and message.
A Design With Something New in Every Section
One of the things that makes Bienvenido so interesting to stitch is how much variety is packed into the design. Instead of working with a single large repeating image, the pattern is divided into smaller sections. There are flowers, hearts, people, a large, smiling sun, decorative borders, hands surrounded by flowers, and plenty of smaller details that tie everything together.
The colors also give the finished piece a warm, folk-art feel. Blues, greens, pinks, purples, browns, and golds all work together without any single color overwhelming the design.
That variety makes Bienvenido the kind of project where finishing one section feels like completing a small project of its own—and then you get to move on to something completely different.
The Details Make the Finished Piece Unique
Looking at the completed project, it’s the little details that really stand out.
The decorative border frames the entire piece, while the dark blue bands at the top and bottom provide a strong visual anchor. Inside, the individual motifs are separated into their own spaces while still feeling like part of one larger sampler.
The lettering woven throughout the design adds another layer of detail, with messages about dreams, family, faith, friendship, gratitude, and love tucked among the stitched images. And if you look closely, you may notice a few places where colors ended up somewhere other than where the pattern intended. Rather than going back and changing them, we decided to leave them as they are. Those little differences make this particular Bienvenido unique. They’re part of the story of stitching the piece and a reminder that a handmade project doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.
In fact, those unexpected touches are part of what we love about a finished cross-stitch project. Two people can start with the same chart and floss and still end up with pieces that are distinctly their own.
Another Finish for the Books
After all those individual stitches, color changes, borders, details, and backstitching, Bienvenido was completed on September 12, 2026.
The next step will be deciding how to finish and display it. With such a detailed border already built into the design, we think this piece will look fantastic once it is framed.
And, of course, getting a project this size off the stitching frame means there’s room for another one! Finishing a cross-stitch project is always rewarding, but designs like Bienvenido are a great reminder of why we enjoy this craft in the first place. A piece starts as fabric, floss, and a chart—and slowly turns into something you can keep and display for years.
Bienvenido by Design Works is officially finished, and we’re excited to add it to our growing collection of completed cross-stitch projects.
