Cottage of the Autumn Witch - Weekly Progress: The Cottage Comes to Life!

3 min read

Our Cottage of the Autumn Witch by Lola Crow is continuing to take shape, and this week's progress has brought even more of the little details to life. What started as scattered stitches is beginning to look like a cozy autumn cottage tucked away in the woods.

With more of the cottage, surrounding trees, and landscape stitched, it's becoming easier to see how all the different elements will come together.

The Cottage Is Taking Shape

One of the biggest changes this week is how much more complete the cottage looks.

The roof has filled in considerably, showing off the different shades of brown that give it a rustic, weathered appearance. The deep blue accents along the cottage walls provide a beautiful contrast against the earthy tones.

The upper window is now clearly visible, complete with the little owl looking out. It's one of those charming details that gives this pattern so much personality.

Below, the front window is taking shape with warm red and orange tones that almost seem to glow against the darker stitches surrounding them. The white butterflies around the window are also becoming more noticeable, standing out beautifully against the blue and brown of the cottage.

And, of course, there's the door! With more of the surrounding stitches completed, the wooden door is now clearly defined, adding another piece to this little woodland home.

The Autumn Landscape Is Growing

The cottage isn't the only part of the project seeing progress.

The bare tree beside the house has gained more definition, with its twisting branches reaching upward and a few golden-yellow leaves scattered throughout. Those small touches of yellow add just enough autumn color without overwhelming the design.

Along the bottom, the fence, greenery, and ground details are beginning to fill in. There's still plenty of stitching left to do, but these smaller elements are helping connect the cottage to its surroundings.

It's especially satisfying to watch the different sections come together after working on them individually.

Stitching on Stormy Night Aida

We're continuing to stitch this project on 18-count Stormy Night Aida, using the called-for floss colors from Lola Crow's pattern. One of the reasons we chose this fabric was to help the lighter colors stand out, particularly the whites and blues.

Now that more of those colors are appearing in the design, we're getting a better look at how they work together. The white butterflies and other lighter details contrast nicely with the darker cottage, while the blues add a little extra character to the overall design.

The fabric is proving to be a lovely choice for this autumn-themed project.

Still More to Come

Even with all this progress, there's still quite a bit of stitching ahead. Some areas around the cottage and landscape remain unfinished, and we're looking forward to seeing how the remaining details change the overall appearance.

That's one of our favorite parts of cross-stitching a design like this. Every stitching session reveals something new, whether it's a tiny detail in a window, another section of the landscape, or a color that suddenly makes the surrounding stitches stand out.

We'll be sharing another update as the project continues.

Are you working on an autumn or Halloween-themed cross-stitch project? We'd love to hear what you're stitching!
