Happy Halloween SAL by Stitchonomy - A Colorful Family Project

There's another Halloween cross-stitch project underway at Bloomfield Craft! This time, I'm working on the Happy Halloween Stitch-Along (SAL) by Stitchonomy, and this project has a little something extra special: my son is helping choose the colors!
I'm letting him pick the colors for each square as we go, making this a fun project that we're working on together in our own way.
The Border Is Finished!
One of the biggest milestones so far is that the entire border is finished!
The design features a bold black grid surrounded by bright orange decorative stitching, with "Happy Halloween" stitched in purple across the top. The contrast between the black, orange, and purple already gives the piece a wonderful Halloween feel. With the border complete, all those empty squares are just waiting to be filled with Halloween designs.
I've also started stitching the first few details, including a little character near the top of the design. It's exciting to finally see some color appearing inside the squares after spending so much time working on the border.
My Son Is Choosing the Colors
What makes this project especially fun is that my son gets to choose the colors for each square. Rather than following every suggested color exactly, I'm letting him decide which colors we'll use as the individual designs come together.
I think it's going to make the finished piece even more meaningful. Not only will it be a Halloween decoration we can bring out year after year, but it'll also be a reminder of the choices he made as we stitched it.
I'm looking forward to seeing what combinations he comes up with. Some might be traditional Halloween colors, while others could be completely unexpected. That's part of the fun!
Choosing colors together has also been a fun reminder of just how many options there are in DMC embroidery floss. If you are planning your own colorful cross-stitch project, you can explore the DMC floss selection at Bloomfield Craft to find the shades that fit your design.
A Little Behind, but I'll Catch Up!
I'll admit that I'm a little behind on this stitch-along. Between other cross-stitch projects, running Bloomfield Craft, and everything else that comes with daily life, I haven't been able to keep up with the releases as closely as I'd planned.
But that's okay! One of the things I love about cross-stitch is that there's no need to rush through a project to meet a deadline. Now that the border is finished, I can focus on filling in the individual squares. I'm planning to spend some more time stitching and hopefully catch up with the SAL soon.
Interested in a Free Stitch Along?
If you enjoy stitching along with other cross-stitchers, Stitchonomy offers stitch-along opportunities through its community. A stitch along is a fun way to work through a design in sections, share your progress, and see how other stitchers make the same pattern their own.
You can learn more about their free stitch alongs and find information on available projects on the official Stitchonomy Stitch Along page. Whether you are keeping up with every release or stitching at your own pace like me, it is a great way to enjoy a project alongside other stitchers.
Looking Forward to the Finished Piece
There's still plenty of stitching ahead, but I'm already enjoying this project. The black outlines and bright Halloween colors are coming together nicely, and I can't wait to see how the design looks once all the squares are filled in.
More importantly, I'm excited to see how my son's color choices bring his own personality into the finished piece.
I'll share another update as more squares are completed. Hopefully, by then, I'll be a little closer to catching up!
Happy stitching!
